Sony Xperia product marketing manager Stephen Sneeden has said the company may leave the entry-level tier to “other manufacturers”
Sony has said it might exit the entry-level tier of the mobile market, in order to focus on competing with Apple and Samsung in the mid- to premium tier.
The company recently said it aims to be the third largest mobile manufacturer after Apple and Samsung.
In a more recent interview with CNET, Sony Xperia product marketing manager Stephen Sneeden said the company may do this by leaving the entry-level tier.
“We’re ready to be a premium smartphone provider, logically then, at the very entry level is where you lose the ‘Sonyness’.

He said “mid- to premium tier is the more likely scenario” and that the mid-range devices will share many of the features of flagship devices.
